Senior Tax Analyst

Corporate - Kent, OH - Full Time

A Carter Lumber Senior Tax Analyst is responsible for preparing corporate tax returns by collecting, reviewing, analyzing and formatting financial information.  Maintains, updates and reconciles the current and deferred income tax accounts.  Assists with income tax audits and correspondence.  Researches various technical tax issues.  Assists with other projects.  Responsive, effective verbal and written communication with internal personnel and external individuals is mandatory for the success of this position.

Requirements to be Considered for the Position:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting
  • Certified Public Accountant preferred
  • Minimum of four years of strong corporate tax experience, including two years in tax department of regional/large public accounting firm
  • Extensive background in federal and multistate income tax compliance, including separate company, consolidated and unitary filings
  • Solid ASC 740 experience, including tax provision preparation and maintenance and reconciliation of current and deferred tax accounts
  • Comprehensive use of Microsoft Office programs, specifically Excel and Word
  • Experience with ONESOURCE Tax Compliance, Provision and State Apportionment software a big plus
  • Strong research skills, including ability to clearly communicate & explain (verbally and in writing) technical tax information to non-tax personnel
  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively under time constraints and within deadlines, with others and independently
  • Ability to work in a highly collaborative manner with initiative, confidentiality and reliability and with a strong work ethic and sense of personal responsibility and integrity

Responsibilities of the Position:

Tax Compliance:

  • Prepares federal and multistate income tax returns, including separate company, consolidated and unitary filings, in an accurate and timely manner.

Tax Accounting:

  • Prepares separate company and consolidated tax provisions, including related footnotes and journal entries. 
  • Maintains, updates and reconciles current and deferred tax accounts..

Tax Research:

  • Researches technical tax matters.
  • Compiles relevant internal information.
  • Determines practical, solution-focused responses to issues.  
  • Effectively communicates same, verbally and in writing, to tax as well as non-tax personnel.

Other:

  • Assists with income tax audits and correspondence.
  • Focuses on process improvement and tax savings initiatives.
  • Works collaboratively with internal employees and external individuals on various projects.
